REAL ESTATE examines the increasing precarity of life under late-stage capitalism. Sandy, a sunny academic who finds solace in the Wood Wide Web and the ethics of trees, and Henry, her depressed philosopher husband, inherit his father’s Manhattan co-op—only to find the co-op board has other ideas. When Sandy’s mother Ethel, an aging actress and rabble-rousing activist who has become homeless, arrives on their doorstep, matters grow considerably more complicated.
“Real Estate by Waltrudis Buck is a sharp, darkly comic portrait of modern urban life, blending biting satire with emotional nuance. Set against the pressures of New York real estate and family strain, the play captures the absurdities of class, bureaucracy, and generational conflict with wit and precision. Its richly drawn characters and layered humor make for a compelling, intelligent, and deeply entertaining theatrical experience.”
